The Territory Boys launched the tinny (Fish Tank Junior) for an epic day's fishing at Shoal Bay. The trip started with us making our way in 10 knot wind and big swell into our first destination. We surfed our way into the creek wanting to get to our good barra spot, but we ended up pushing our boat to the spot in knee deep water. Little did we know it was low tide. When we made it to the barra spot, we turned our sounder to side scan and immediately spotted big barra sitting under the sticks.
Sam and Zayden cast their white weedless paddle tail Z-Man in the snag. And in one snag we hooked close to 10 barra but landed none. Even though we caught nothing on the first snag, we knew there would be fish in the next after all those barra. We both flicked our lures in the snag and that's when the fun began! As soon as the lure hit the water we did one twitch and one wind and BANG we were on. Both Sam and Zayden hooked two 60cm barra that fought so hard and jumped about 5 -10 times. At the same time, we swung both barra in the boat and everyone started cheering and laughing. It was definitely the biggest highlight of the trip.
After the excitement of the double hook up, there were plenty more adventures to come. We were trying to get to the mouth because at low tide it's a really good barra spot, but ended up pushing the boat in knee to waist deep water. The tide was still going out so as we pushed, it got lower and lower and we ended up getting stuck on the sand bar for 2-3 hours. While we were stuck, we went cast netting for mullet to use for bait. To barra, mullet are like lollies are to kids. It was heaps of fun but we got soaked in a big storm. While getting wet, we were walking in knee deep mud and almost stepping on stingrays.
The tide was coming in. Finally, the boat was floating. It was time to see what Tom and Ethan were up to. When we came to their spot, the boat was empty and stuck on a sandbar, spinning in circles because it was eddying. Both of us had a real feeling of worry because we couldn't see them anywhere. After waiting for them, we saw two blokes running across the sandbar carrying four legal barra. It looked like they'd had an epic time too. Eventually we where all exhausted and driving home. What an epic day's adventure!
